DREAMCATCHER AT DUSK QUILT Size: 99”x 99”

The unusual layout of this stunning quilt, a finalist at the International Quilt Show, Houston, 2018, offers plenty of negative space to showcase each block and to show off your quilting. Bonus – you get to use all of your scraps from piecing the blocks for the chopsticks!

These are fabric requirements and instructions only for the assembly of the blocks into the final quilt. The patterns for foundation paper-pieced blocks are available separately for purchase.

Also included here is the freezer paper technique used for setting circles on squares.

Summary of the Layout Process

• The quilt has 16 blocks; each block is pieced as a 15” circle which is attached (by applique or sewing/ freezer paper method) to an 18” finished square background.
• The quilt background uses three shades of blue, an inner light blue set off by a middle border in medium blue and outer dark blue border.
• The circles in the inner 8 blocks are set in light blue squares.
• The circles in outer 8 blocks that are at edge of the quilt are set in squares that are sewed from two different coloured fabrics, one dark blue and one medium blue.
• The blocks are assembled in four panels of 4 blocks each, around fiery ‘chopsticks’. Two light blue and two medium-dark blues blocks constitute each panel.
• These four panels are then assembled into the final layout around a centre light blue square.

Fabric Requirements for the background fabric will depend on the method you use for assembling your pieced circles to the background squares. However, as a rough estimate, you need about 2.5 yards each of dark and medium blue and 3 yards of light blue, if you use the applique method, which uses the most fabric.
